Welcome to the Claudia Taylor “Ladybird” Johnson High School Aquatics web site. Johnson High School is a Texas class 5A school located in north east San Antonio and competes in the North East Independent School District (NEISD). Johnson, which opened in 2007, begins its fourth year in NEISD as one of the top programs in the district. With minimal losses and the emergence of some super freshmen last year, Johnson is poised to have a great year. There is depth all over as all except one swimmer, are back from last year’s State-bound group that included two girls relay teams and two individual swimmers. The boys relay, All-State (honorable mention) for the last three ye
ars, should finally break through this year as well, and join the contingent heading up I35 February. The pipeline of local community swimmers that will feed Johnson is now well established as there are multiple community teams that are now sending excellent freshmen our way. Even the diving team is gaining strength as there are 4 boy divers this year to add to a strong group of girls. In all, Johnson now has 52 Jaguars that are not afraid of the water!

Johnson’s growth continues to extend beyond local venues as the Jag
uars will travel for the second year. Last year’s trip to North Austin and the second place finish in the Winter Wonderland Classic encouraged Johnson to reach a little higher, so this year the Jaguars will be heading even farther away from San Antonio (north of Dallas) to participate in an invitational meet now in its 25th year--the Cougar Classic. The top returners include; Riley Marks (senior), regional champion in the 100 back stroke, All-American, All-State, San Antonio All-Express News, and State relay team member (Medley R, 200 Free R); Reid McCorkle (junior), regional champion in 100 backstroke, All-State; Brianna Higgins (junior), Raquel Grays (sophmore), Taylor Silvestry (sophmore) All-State relay team members,  and Nick Guillen (senior), Josh Morgan (senior), Cameron Wickes (senior), All-State relay team (honorable mention) members. Captains for this year are Riley Marks, Nick Guillen, Josh Morgan, Cameron Wickes, and Elizabeth Bennett.

The 2011-2012 year promises to be an interesting season for Johnson Aquatics. The traditional district power houses include Churchill and Reagan, with MacArthur and Johnson jockeying for third, Perhaps this is the year that Johnson challenges for one of the two top spots. However, given the swimming talent in San Antonio--John Murray (Churchill) won junior nationals this summer, achieving Olympic Trials time cuts in the process, and Anna Mayfield of Smithson Valley, last year’s Texas State swimmer of the year, near Olympic Trial cuts, there is competition in every event and every race.
